Whether you’re journaling about a specific topic or event, or simply commenting on the subject matter of a photo, when writing in your scrapbook, write from the heart! The best to way to captivate your reader is to tell your story and tell it honestly.  People like to hear the stories of others because if provides an element of relativity. Said another way, they like having the benefit of hearing another person’s perspective on a matter, again, for validation and comparison with their own thoughts.

When writing, capture the moments when your thoughts are not guarded, but when they’re most open.  These are the times when the authenticity of your message will ring the loudest.  If you’re telling about an event and you share your feelings, your message will mean more to the reader because it’s your message, it’s how you saw things and it’s the truth. Just as importantly, share the stories of others that you know to be true, and tell them with your feelings attached.

A scrapbook should be more than the who, what, why, where, when and how of the event. As the scrapbook creator you are more than a reporter. You have your feelings about the matter that need to be shared to allow future readers to get to know you or know you better, and to learn more about the subjects at hand. Your words are more valuable than photographs.
